Water In Heater Duct?

HI

My Avensis 08 1.8 has started to smell fusty inside. There is no sign of leakage in the car, damp carpet etc and my guess is water in the heater dust. I had a couple of Vauxhall cars that were prone to getting leaves in the air intake grill at the top of the bonnet that then went down and blocked a sort of sump which had a drain to let out any water that entered the grill.

I cannot see how the Avensis air intake works and how I could release any water if in fact this is the problem. Any ideas on this or alternative theories about the source of the fustyness?

Air conditioning (pollen) filter.

As mentioned. Change the pollen filter. Drop glove box unscrew Philips screw on box dampner. Pull glove box out..you will see two tables push these in and remove cover. You will see pollen filter. Dead easy

Not the pollen filter now currently snooping around the car, nose down trying to find the source of the smell! Not a trace of damp anywhere-I am wondering if one of the dogs has peed on a seat and with the seat material being a sort of woven plastic feels dry to touch but is damp and smelly undernieth?

Could be the aircon system or water in the rear side wells. Look under boot carpet. Remove foam and check side wells and spare wheel well.

You could try this :

There's also a few diy videos on YouTube which claim to help with bad smells coming from the air conditioning. Having the controls set to recirculate might be a factor
