Timing Belt Or Timing Belt Kit?

I need to have the timing belt renewed shortly as car is approaching 120000 miles. I'll get the water pump done at the same time even though there is no sign of leakage.

I've been shopping around and Indie garages are almost all suggesting that they fit a timing belt kit, ie timing belt, pulleys , tensioner etc. Mr T is quoting for just the timing belt and would only fit the other bits if they were required. At 120000 miles how likely is it that the other bits would need replacing?

The cost is about the same as the cheaper labour is cancelled out by the extra cost of the full kit.

Thanks

I replaced the full belt kit and water pump mate on mine,it would be Sod's law you would get the belt done then your water pump would jack in and have it to do again.its best off doing everything now and not cut corners as it would cost ya more in the long run but that's my opinion mate.

Get it all done at the same time, pulleys are obviously on bearings, they wear. Think how many times those bearing have rotated over 120,000 miles. Toyota, or any garage, should be recommending changing everything.

If its the 1cd-ftv engine. Toyota recommend only do the belt and change on inspection.

Toyota hydraulic tensioner (piston type) is made by NTN. Blueprint do with the same name stamped along side each other they are indentical.

Other two bearings are made by NSK.

Water pump is made by aisin. Gates pump was made by aisin.

Ive used a used a dayko kit bearings where indentical.

Change them all for piece of mind.

Belt alone is possibly false economy.
