Done To Death Topic !

Ok - I know this topic has been done to death - believe me, I've probably read all the threads/posts.

What I cant work out, even after all the reading up - is there a definitive cure.????

I have a 05 2.0D4D with 115K on which ive owned for 3 years.

Battery was replaced by supplying garage when I purchased.

SCV's replaced

Earth strap cleaned and re-fitted.

Still a pain to start when its hot - stalled in traffic recently and had to sit it out like a lemon till it cooled down enough to restart.

Any further advice appreciated. Also can anyone give me the recommended Battery spec.

Thanks in advance

steve

I once owned a Merc 2.2cdi which had injector troubles on two different occasions. One gave me difficult starting only when hot, the other gave the same problem but only when cold. Both were faulty (leaking) injectors. I haven't heard of the problem on Toyotas but it's maybe worth asking if a leak-off test can be done.

If you have a 1CD-series engine it's 99% that it's a fault in the starter motor. There's even a TSB for it:

The easy fix is just for have it replaced; If you get a new one from Toyota it will be the revised part which shouldn't develop the problem again (It has the same part number tho')

I think one member here (avensis?) had taken theirs apart and found it to be an issue with the contacts or something?

Thanks for the replies.

The problem does seem to be worsening so i've just had the Battery tested.

As the existing Battery is starting to fail.I've just ordered a replacement, a Varta G7 95AH CCA830, this should be an improvement. Next step is to replace starter with the uprated 2.2kw one.

Fingers crossed that fixes it, as otherwise the car is one of the best and most practical vehicles i've owned - and i've had a fair few to compare with. Will post back results when all done and tested.

cheers
