Central Lock Diagnosis

Hi all,

I'm searching for help for diagnosing central lock problem. Car is Avensis sedan 1600 year 2000. Problem is that either of keys don't open doors by pressing button. Here are symptoms and observations I have made and seen:

- both keys worked sometimes for opening central lock by pressing the button. This happened over years

- now recently either of keys don't open doors by pressing the button

- often door central lock switch don't work to open direction and it works always to close direction

- key buttons works for closing doors mostly, not always

- turning key in door lock mechanically usually works but sometimes it fails to open central lock. Again closing direction is more reliable

- wet weather made symptoms worse and at dry weather it seemed to be better. This I'm not fully sure and it might be false observation

Battery is changed and they are 3.3V each on both keys.

First I assumed it has to be broken key but when door switch fails also I began to doubt it. Is here someone who can give tips where to start investigating. I can dig as deep as needed but just need some starting point.

Thanks!

Henri

I had issues with one of my keys and changing the Battery did not work. I then discovered that the key can go out of sync, and it is covered by the handbook.

Check the following link:-

This is for the Mk1 Avensis 1997-2002 only!

Just for those wondering how Henri got on, the link to the re-sync helped him fix his car:-

Henri, like myself have mk1 Avensis, so I can assume that Toyota built in this fix, due to the then technology.

I was not aware of any issues until this year, so it is good to know. Plus the fix is in the handbook, instead of the usual "take it to the dealer".
