Just pulled out my sezied 2.2 D4d engine (2AD-FTV), got a 08 engine with only 98K on the clock so that is a bonus, my engine had 161K on it,

BUT can anyone tell me if i have to reprogram anything, or will the ecu reset itself. ??

i'll be afraid to start engine incase i damage injectors or something.

Thanks TOC people.

I do know that the ecu has to be programmed to match the trim code on each injector. I suppose if the old ones are good you could do a swap, as you'll have to pull each one anyway to get the trim code off it. Of course the injectors would have to be in the same position on both New and old engines.

Hi Duggerz,

Is it hard to match the trim code's?

I asked local mechanic and he didn't no if has software would!

or would Tech stream do it.?

I would check with a diesel specialist for details of exactly how its done, though I understand each injector had the trim code stamped on it during manufacture. The codes may be readable without removing the injector from the head I don't know, but you'll certainly have to pull the cam cover off.

If you use the injectors from the replacement engine there are two things that need to be done:

1 Trim/compensation codes have to be written into the ECU

2. If the injectors are the later phase 2 type then the engine software needs updating, good practice to have it done even if the injectors are phase 1 as it includes lots of improvements to the cars management systems.

Writing the codes and updating the software will require Techstream and the latest software.

  • 2 months later...

Slightly off topic as I have a Rav4, however its the same engine and I have a problem coding the injectors... the ecu won't accept them.  Saying that I have a very similar situation in that my car is a 2006 2.2 (2AD-FTV) and the replacement engine came from a 2008 model.. wondering if there's a software update for my ecu that will allow the ecu to recognise the newer injectors

Any guidance very much appreciated.
