Power Heater. Vin Decoder?

Hi guys. As all of us have been warned, Winter is coming. Or, better said, is already here.

My 2004 Avensis D4D 2.0 Diesel has the "infamous" "heater" button next to the mirror control buttons.

Is there a clear way to find out if this is for Christmas decorations only?

How can I tell if I have an "aux" heating system installed or not? I read about "Eberspacher" systems, AC related systems, diesel fueled systems, decorations only systems, electrical heating systems, etc.

Is there a way that I can find out by "decoding my VIN nr. if I have an aux. heating system, and what type it is?

How the hell do I find out if the button I have (it lights up when pressed) is for decorations purposes only"

I tried a few tips that I found here, but I just couldn't figure the exact right way to test this.

H E L P ! ! !

Hey, good luck with that, I had the same thing some years ago and even Toyota UK couldn't give me a sensible answer.

but afaik with the UK not being a "cold" climate Toyota UK didn't make the aux/power heater an option for the UK. Wherever Cristian is it may well have been.

I doubt that you can directly decode the VIN to tell - but the VIN is probably linked to the exact spec. in a Toyota database if you can get a dealer to do it for you? Mind you a dealer could also tell you just by looking if you have it or not ...

Does your country have a similar owner/user web system to the MyToyota that we have in the UK? Possibly that might have it.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply!

I'm from Romania, the car was bought from Germany.

About the dealer, they messed up my trust in them the first time i needed their help, so i don't think I'll ask for their help again soon.

I was member on a local Merc forum, and there were a few guys that could "decode" the VIN, and tell all the trims and "extras" that the car originally had. I thought that this is possible with Toyota too.

Also, there are 2 forums in Romania, but they are not as popular as this one, and also, there is some confusion too about this auxiliary heating unit too.

A VIN can't give you all options because many of them are dealer-fit. Perhaps those people on the Merc. forum had access to Merc. databases (as a few of the members here who work for UK Toyota dealers do)?

You could try http://www.vindecoder.net/car-brand-manufacturer/toyota but I don't think that it will help you with your query.

Probably of little concern to a 2004 Avensis but some of these "decode your VIN" web sites have been linked to car thieves poaching genuine VIN numbers for stolen vehicles.
