The Air Intake And Suspension Of The Corolla E11

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello guys, I have a 1998 corolla e11 with the 4afe engine (1.6 16v) and five speed gear shift.

I am getting it ready for street use and i would like to get some advice.

Well the first thing I can notice is that it has a really small hole for the air to get in the filter, has any of you changed it or just install a conic sporty filter and noticed any difference on the performance of the car?

Second but not last, it has a really soft suspension in the back wheels and when i load the car the suspension touches the chassis. Have you heard of any cheap coilovers? i dont want to lower the car, just to stiffen up the suspension and improve its stability.

Any other advise is welcome,

Thank you for your time,

Mikel

Hi,

If you see this post entry #4 it shows an after market filter in an E11, though do search the forum for other similar air filter posts as you can sometimes get running problems with them.

As for your soft rear end, it sounds more like your springs are worn out, though you do not say what you are ' loading' it with.

If the springs are gone then likely the dampers are as well.

Again search the forum for the many posts on the coil overs.

Would have thought some new standard springs and gas dampers would have made a big difference, where 'coilovers' might be too hard.
