Grinding Noise When Driving

Hi

Everyone i hope you can help me with a problem that my wife car has got. I have a little knowledge but not enough. The car grinds from setting off and becomes very loud when reaching 30mph but will not go any higher. I have changed the left hand Drive shaft as this had a lot of play in it when i grabbed it and moved this in and out. I have also changed the front drivers side wheel bearing as the noise seems to be coming from there. I have jacked up the car so both wheels are off the ground. Started the engine put into gear and let it roll. The left hand side drive shaft doesn't turn but the drivers side will.I think this is a problem as both are supposed to turn?

Heres hoping you can help me with this.

Regards

Hi Paul.

The most obvious thing is worn out brake pads but i am assuming you have looked at them?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. yes i have looked at the brakes and pads even went to the length of pushing the pistons back but still wouldn't spin the wheel when in gear. Ive had a play with it and it sort of feels like the driveshaft isn't connected inside the gearbox but i cannot push the driveshaft in any further.

It's normal for only one driveshaft will turn when both wheels are off the ground - the car only ever 'drives' the easiest one.

Arh so that will not be the problem then but something still is wrong with the gearbox. Going to have to take it in i think and get it properly checked out. Cheers for the help.
