I had one as a courtesy car yesterday when my car was in for a service , i think it was the sports version and the low down torque was quite surprising compared to my petrol version. 0-20mph it is very quick off the mark.

Dont really like what they have done with the dash to be honest and the new Touch system is more complicated that the V1

They have softened up the suspension as far as can tell compared to my one.

Yeah, anything with an electric motor will have a good launch :)

It's been one of the things many a smug Prius owner has been able to surprise other drivers with off the line

What's 'sporty' about the Sport one out of interest? Is it literally just the rear spoiler??

To answer your original question the fuel consumption is lets say no where near what is advertised, Got ours in Sept, a sport hybrid, the book says 74 mpg but no matter how soft I try to drive it it's 50 mpg. I suppose in a lab with all the electric gismos turned off and no heating etc then it might get somewher near but I'm a bit disappointed on that matter. The rest of the car is supprisingly good. We went for an Auris but it was too expensive for the spec we wanted.

The vast majority of cars won't get anywhere near the official EU fuel consumption tests - which are not intended to be an example of what people may achieve in the real world. The fuel consumption tests are supposed to be used as a comparison tool where testing is done under standard laboratory testing conditions and one can compare, for example, what model A achieves compared to model B.

There are websites that provide indications of what fuel consumption cars do achieve under real driving conditions, and an example is - http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/toyota/yaris-and-yaris-hybrid-2011/15-vvt-i-hybrid

I've known about Honest John for some time and didn't expect to get 74 mpg but was hoping for a bit better than 50, as said in a subsequent post the D4D is more fuel efficient but I wanted another hybrid. Supprisingly it is not as good arround town as on a long run ( 50 to 100 mls) even though I have it constantly in ECO mode. I also find the EV button next to useless as when you depress the accelorator anything more than a touch it disengages, hence I never try to use it. The Battery is only half the size of my Lexus but the car is nearly half the weight! As others have said acceleration is not slow for a small car! I'm surprised it doesn't have automatic light as it has the sensor in the top of the dash which dims the instrument cluster lights when it's dark. I am going to drop it into the dealers in the new year as the rear disks are in my opinion badly coroded arround the outer edges as though the pads are not wiping the whole surface or not being applied evenly. The fronts also get a coating of rusty deposits over night but these are wiped away after the first application of the brakes as is normal for all cars. I'll let you know what the dealer says!

I have had mine for 14 months now and it has NEVER done less than 50mpg, calculated on refuelling rather than relying on the computer. It was bettering 60mpg in the warmer weather during the summer. My usage is mainly short trips around town with the occasional long run and frequent round trips of around 20 miles.

Best car I have ever owned by an arm and a leg!

To be fair the HSDs do get hit quite hard in the mpg during winter, esp. for short journeys. One of the downsides of being efficient is there isn't much waste heat to keep the engine at optimal operating temperature. It'll get better as the weather warms up!

Yes, I am actually delighted to be achieving 50mpg around town in the winter! My last car was a 1.4 Fiesta Titanium Automatic which averaged around 24-26mpg in the same conditions and just about managed 40mpg on a run. Show me any other automatic car that can better the HSD for my sort of use.

My 2012 Jazz CVT (7 speed) averages 44mpg around town in summer and 40mpg in winter...(depends on route and traffic - no stopstart)

I was thinking about this last night while trying to get to sleep. Have you had the car from new? If not has it had its first service yet out of interest?

I've had mine since Jan 2015 and mine consistently gets 75 - 80mpg tankful to tankful from a 58 mile daily commute.

Easily seeing 500 miles to a tankful (30 litres to fill it up each time)

More than possible when driven in the right way.

Goes in for its second service next week odometer currently at 19,422

No where near the 52.3 MPGs stated :)
