I believe the 4.2 has four in total bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 1 sensor 2, then bank 2 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 2.

Not sure on diesel as mine has four but is the petrol, hopefully someone else will be able to confirm diesel numbers.

can a fault giving lambda sensor be successfully cleaned and if so how?

Lamba sensors tend to just give up and need to be replaced, have not known one to be cleaned and then work again .

From my years on here and elsewhere it is usually the heater circuit that gives in. It should be about 15 ohms between the black leads but goes o/c. Post your fault code.
