I have just bought a 2011 Aygo Ice with 14600 miles on the clock. Looking at the service book it had its first service at 5786 in April 2013 the next service was a 20K service at 10153 in April 2014 nothing in the book after that. I know it was unused for a long period due to a bereavement. The question is what servicing should I do now? It should of had a service in April 2015 due to time not miles but only a 10000 miles one, will the oil and filter still be OK as that seems to be all that's really done the rest is just checking.

Hello Edwin - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Servicing should be either every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs FIRST.

Servicing on this car should have been done on the time basis - every 12 months. Toyota allow leeway on servicing of one month or 1,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

As the car was bought new in 2011, the first service was due in 2012, the second in 2013, the third in 2014 and the fourth in 2015.

So whatever services the car had are considerably overdue, and not following the correct servicing regime will mean any remaining new car warranty will at the very least be affected, if not invalidated.

Any service, whether by a main dealer or by an indepndent will involve a lot of checking to ensure there are no issues likely to occur.

As the car missed its 4 year/40,000 mile service in 2015, I would suggest this needs to be done, together with a brake fluid change. Also, if the car has an air conditioning (pollen) filter, I would suggest that hasn't been looked at during the previous owner's tenure - so check that (easy to do oneself).

Hi Frosty

Thanks for your reply, the air con filter was changed at 10153, engine oil and filter changed at 10153, brake fluid changed at 10153 this service was done by the main agent who supplied the car. I know the service has been lacking but my main concern is I have to drive up to Scotland in a few days so was thinking of getting an oil/filter change before I go or will the oil be OK for that trip then book it in for a bigger service when I get back.

No I'd get the oil changed before a big trip if its not been serviced for over a year.

personally i wouldn't be too concerned or in a mad panic to have your car serviced before your trip

for the reason some manufacturers have a 2 year 20000 mile service interval like the citroen C3

see link below.

http://info.citroen.co.uk/finance-and-services/caring-for-your-citroen/service-intervals

the engine oil won't degrade to the point where it would be detriment to a car health

after you have come back i would then plan to have the car serviced.

just check all your levels before you set off

As regards the trip to Scotland, I would just do the normal checks (oil, water, brake fluid, tyres [condition, wear and inflation] and top up, etc where necessary. As regards the tyres, as yours will be approaching five years old, check the sidewalls and tread for signs of ageing (cracks, etc), and consider whether any need replacement now or in the near future.

Have the car serviced when you get back.

Some manufacturers have moved away from 2 year service intervals - certainly PSA (Peugeot/Ciutroen) have for vehicles built after 2012, and also VW.

Covers the car rather than being personal cover - so it would be just the £6 per month. Of course if you additionally have a non-Toyota, that would need to be covered separately.

Works out quite cheaply for us as we have an Auris (covered using Toyota Roadside Assistance at £68 for the year) and a Hyundai which came with five years Hyundai Roadside Assistance.

Yes just re read the terms and it does say anyone using the car with the members consent so I may go with that. My other vehicle is a Motor home and the Aygo will be towed behind it when we go away. Any other members do this?

Now back from my 500 mile round trip to Glasgow, storm Frank threw everything at us it could. The Aygo handled it all without a hiccup. It was a cultural change going from my Kia Sorento to something as small as an Aygo and I was a bit apprehensive at first. First thing I noticed was how loud every little stone sounded when it hit the inside of the wheel arch. Then I thought the fuel gauge wasn't working. I didn't hang around doing the legal speed limit (plus vat) whenever possible even in the high winds. Fuel worked out at 47 mpg but we did have an hour and a half with engine running and air con on going nowhere on the flooded M74. All in all I liked the car very much and are looking forward to towing it behind my motor-home in the Summer, if we get one.

Ps Happy New Year to you all.

Ed
