Auris Hybrid Exhaust Bracket Broken

Hi all, just got the car 2010 model back from a 60k service. All was fine except for the exhaust bracket broken that I was informed not an issue as far as MOT is concerned.

However, the quote was in excess of £1300! This is to replace the whole assembly I assume including the CAT. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any ideas about alternative solutions? I would have thought some specialist welding could be done and that should be a lot cheaper.

Thanks for any comments.

£13K for an exhaust system? Are you sure it wasn't £1300?

Thanks for pointing that out. Yes you are correct 1300, still a ton of money though.

Apologies in advance for bumping up such an old thread but I have a similar issue. My car was serviced a few weeks ago and I was recommended to replace the exhaust backbox because the mount is broken and they quoted me almost £300. They refused to put a bracket or something around the exhaust and attach it to the hole in the current mount because according to them "this is not how Toyota recommends fixing this issue"...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has done this before and knows what's the diameter of the hole marked in red, so I could mount a bracket that goes through it, and what's the diameter of the exhaust itself so I buy a bracket that's big enough. I'm looking to buy something like this: https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/712770021?gclid=Cj0KCQjwocShBhCOARIsAFVYq0iTvIvv-KlZg-kV5TYkZ64i_-T9XDCNqYR9EsMcFmtdXDIAicV5Kk4aAh4nEALw_wcB

I can't see from the picture so, could could you please clarify.

Was the bracket welded onto the exhaust pipe?

If so, I did the same thing with my Avensis last week.

I bought a 64mm exhaust clamp, welded the broken bracket to it and, refitted it.

Maybe you could take a clearer picture, or two?

It's the rear support on the back box, zap it with a MIG welder, job done - worst ways a bit of wire through the hole and wrap it around the pipe

I was assuming the O.P. didn't have access to a welder, which, in the hands of an amateur, will inevitably lead to a hole in the exhaust.

There is also this type of thing, for a home repair.

Most exhaust places can weld it up for a small fee

Hi,

If you are on the diy side and exclude any welding you can do the job with jubilee clip , stainless steel clamp .
I have used for my car size 40/60 mm 9mm width for 1.8 hybrid, 200000 miles later still spot on and no issues at all, mot passed every time too.
If your exhaust hole it’s not  the same as on my car then you can drill it and fit the clip through.

Exhaust hanger and mufflers are area that we need to check occasionally.  I usually clean with brush and spray the exhaust hanger with Zn-aluminum spray can from Lidl. It works well.
