Hilux Surf Opening The Tailgate

Doesn't look like too many people read the specific surf club so I'll try here

Looking at buying a hilux surf but can anyone tell me how the boot opens from the outside?

I can see the lock and handle inside but nothing outside. Clues please😊

Are you sure the rear window winds down fully? When the window is fully wound down the tailgate latch should pop up.

Does this mean you can only open it from the inside?

Think there is a mechanism in the tailgate that prevents the tailgate from being opened until the window is fully retracted - otherwise the window risks being broken. If the window isn't fully retracting, the window winding motor may be at fault. I believe the motor is a common component with some other Toyota models of that era.
