Hybrid Yaris Headlight Bulb

Checking the type of headlight bulb needed for 62 plate hybrid Yaris.

In the Owners Guide, it says the normal 62 plate Yaris has an H4 bulb but the hybrid version has an HIR2 bulb (rare as rocking horse dodah).

Can anyone confirm that this is the case in the UK?

Yes some versions of the Yaris use the HIR2 bulbs - it seems as though Toyota is moving towards these on a number of their ranges including the IQ, Aygo and Auris. Philips was the main manufacturer of these after GE and Toshiba pulled out, but in 2014 Osram started producing them. I contacted Osram to enquire whether they had plans to produce Nightbreaker versions, but as the HIR2 bulbs are already 75-80% brighter than standard halogen bulbs, they don't.

Found these which are a bit cheaper and claim to be a little bit brighter and whiter...

There doesn't appear to be a main beam bulb either and the HIR2 looks like a single filament bulb.

So how does the yaris do main beam?

When driving, it looks as if the dipped beam is just aimed a bit higher.

It doesn't get a lot brighter.

As far as I'm aware an actuator moves the light output through a lens to provide main beam.

When I was over in Belgium I purchased some Hir2 bulbs in 4800K, although they are still 55W they create more white light similar to LED's which in turn appears to brighten up the road ahead.

I can't remember the name of the car parts shop but it was in Herzele near Ghent if anyone wants to search.
