Avensis 1.8 2003 (T25) Manual Momentary Fuel Consumptipn Reading

Hi everybody

I have a problem with my cars momentary fuel consumtion reading then i leave the gear in and take the foot off the pedal. The engine starts "breaking" and fuel comsumption should be 0, but mine shows 3.3L/100km and never less.

Also the average consumption reading lies. It shows 1.8L/100km less than actual. I have calculated the real consumption like a 100 times over the years using fill up, drive a lot, fill up calculate method and it always shows 1.8L/100km less than actual.

The car runs great, everything works like it should be. Are these readings normal for a 1.8L 1ZZ FE, or is something wrong with my car.

Thanks

even modern car computers are rarely 100% accurate & older ones often worse than current.

Take your Battery terminals off for around 15-20minutes to reset the computer.then take it a drive and go thru all the gears (don't drive it like a race car driver).re-learn it to suit your daily drive.

Today i made a longer journey and got bored. I have a OBD bluetooth adapter and Obd Car Doctor on my phone. It showed quite realistic fuel figures. It gets all information directly from ECU and so does multi- information display, so why doesn`t it show correct numbers.

One more thing. Then i turned the multi- information display off and on again, it showed same numbers as my phone for ten seconds and then it started to show less than real again.

Not too sure about that?A delay from ecu to the multi info screen?I would try the Battery off and see I have done it on both my avensis and auris with the avensis d4d doing mostly town driving it was only doing 32-34mpg everywhere . reset it and I was up in high 50's same on auris..For the sake of 5mins of taking terms off and waiting for 15-20mins what you got to lose?

Battery was disconnected over night, connected this morning and drive to work. At first it looked like it has done the trick, but after 30 km it learned old habits. Again average 4.8 L/100km

Is it just the muti-info that's doing it?Is mpg ok or you getting poor economy?
