2011 Avensis Central Locking Issue

Recommended Posts

Car: 2011 reg 2.0 D4d Saloon

Symptoms:

* remote unlock on either of my keys does not open any door lock. Boot/Trunk does unlock.

* driver's door opens with key but others need to be manually opened from inside - ie central locking not working on manual key/lock either.

* remote lock does work - all doors lock remotely

Any obvious thing to check here before I head to dealer? Fuse or relay etc?

Hi sorry I cant help you but maybe some one here can help us both. We are exactly they same problem with the locking system as you. So far it as cost us £180 been back to the dealer three times and it seems they do not have a clue. It is going back for a forth time next week but we do not hole much hope.

I take it you’ve tried new batteries in both of your keys and that you’re not leaving your keys near any source like TV Box, mobile phone recharger, lamps with energy saving light bulbs etc that might weaken the Battery overnight.

Do the door lock actuators make a noise when you try to remotely unlock ie as if they are trying to unlock?

Does the dome (interior) light work when you open the doors after unlocking?

There’s numerous threads about the Avensis central locking system if you look in the search box at the top of the page.

One Battery has been changed in the most used fob. The keys are not left near anything you mention, mine in is my handbag and hubbys is in his jacket pocket. There is a slight noise when trying to open. The boot is the only thing that opens. The interior light is working fine. When we came to it today it is all working again which has happened before the noise is correct again and the un locking system is working fine. Until it stops again which could be anytime. This is a puzzle to us and the garage.

My issue is not related to batteries in keys as the 3 other doors do not unlock when drivers door is opened with key and all doors do not open when the unlock switch is operated on inside of drivers door. Interior light is working fine.

Issue first occured when 1 or more family members may have been attempting to open doors while I was unlocking with remote button on key.

Ours is the same the key fob only opens the drivers door and boot. Also the same thing with unlock switch this opens nothing. We think changing the Battery in one fob may have started this issue but not sure.

The Toyota dealership has had the car three times they have checked all wiring and also changed a door lock mechanism. We get the car back working the longest so far as been three weeks and then it stops working again. Only opening the drivers door and boot.

We have found out that in the owner manual the resetting instruction for the key fobs should be there. When ours packs in again which it will, we try the instruction.

This has been on going since July last year..

I hope to try disconnecting the car Battery for a period over the weekend. Saw it mentioned on another site. Maybe a long shot but will see if it resets anything associated with the locking system. :/

Good luck I hope that works for you. Please let me know if it does. It all seems to stem around the keys getting knocked out of balance with the system. Will let you know if we find anything in manual and will post it here.

Didnt get around to disconnecting car Battery since but have one extra point to note...

When pressing the unlock button on the key, I can hear the normal click inside the door but the car doesnt unlock. Possible this is a mechanical issue?

Same with our Toyota, Garage change one of the locking devices on one door. This worked for about three weeks and then it stopped again. We are using one key fob only now and it has been working again for just about 1 week. We tried re setting keys with method some one put on here at the time it did not work but then a couple of days later it did work but with my key. So now that is the only key we are using. Our son in law is a car boff and he also said it's strange but he does think it's something to do with the keys losing their memory. We found nothing useful in the actual owner manual but in the manual our son in law put in drop box for us is a lot of info and most of pretty complicated. There is a section called THEFT DETERRENT & DOOR LOCK which I could email you if you like ? Dont seen any options on here to upload it for you.

After a few months of not working, this suddenly resolved itself, worked fine for a few days, stopped working again for a few days and has now worked ok again for the past few weeks. I am wondering if there is anything that could be loose that I or my non Franchised garage could check?
