I found this but not sure if it will work for all markets. These things are usually restricted by territory

A quick trip to my car put me out of the thought I have just thrown 50€ out of the window as I have just ordered the above aforementioned gadget from Japan.

Nope. All good I'm still gonna need it.

Well at least you tried.

Went through a similar process with Ford with exactly the same results, hence my doubts

The difference with Ford though is that you could re-configure the ECU yourself using an OBD connector to your laptop and a piece of software called Forscan. In fact you could amend most things in the ECU that were not officially available for the UK market

If anyone used this software they could inform us if you can do such things...

Sadly Forscan is only for Ford vehicles. Will need to research if there's an equivalent for Toyota.

Theoretically any dealer could make the change for you, but most won't due to "safety concerns" even though many vehicles on road already have this feature by default e.g Mrs Dastardly's Hyundai

I think there is something called Carista or something like that which some people have mentioned but I haven't got or used it so I don't know it's functions

I used the free Forscan to enable this on my mk3 Focus, you have to buy the compatible OBD port cable. I like this option personally. It can be a pain when parked up waiting for people and, when they try to get in, the doors are locked but that is a good thing.

I am suprised my wifes much newer 2018 Yaris Hybrid doesn't have this, not as suprised to find that it didn't have rear electric windows.

Be so much easier if the manufacturers didn't have so many optional extras nowadays.

When I bought my mk3 Ford Escort there were about 7 optional extras, tinted glass, central locking, rear seat belts, opening rear quarter windows, rear anti roll bar, electric windows. I just can't remember the other one(s), it was the 1980's so I am allowed to forget.

My point about this, if you bought a car back then like I did and you wanted those additions you COULD source the bits and do it yourself. You can't now as so many things have to be enabled in software.

I did managed to correctly retro fit front fog lights to our previous Fiat 500, easily sourced the correct loom and associated bits and with the aid of "Multiecuscan" enabled them, that was a nice addition.

Limited. Check their website and you can see what it does for each model/car brand.

I've set windows to open or close by long press on the unlock button when approaching the car. Useful if it ever gets hot enough to need to air the car!

Also set the Indictator to give 5 clicks instead of the standard three when you "flick" the indicator.

You can enable/disable seat belt warnings and a few extra bits and pieces, you can buy annual access to the software or monthly. It works with cheaper obd plugs, you don't need to buy theirs (I didn't). I got a cheap obd plug off Amazon and one month software access; played with it until I was happy with the chosen options. If I ever need to change anything, I'll buy another month (?£10 from memory)

Fords are particularly good with DIY adding extra stuff. With my mk2 Focus I managed to add external temperature sensor, additional interior lighting, cruise control, ptc heater, washer fluid sensor, everything with a Forscan, elmconfig and a proper obd cable. And some manual work of course. All looms were already there.
