Is A 2006 Avensis Colour Collection A Good Choice?

Well after a few months of waiting for a decent Avensis to come up for sale local to me, I think I may have spotted one. It's a low mileage 2006 1.8 VVT-i Colour Collection. Am I correct in thinking the oil problem will have been fixed on a model of this year? Also, is the Colour collection a base model? I don't seem to be able to find a website with any information.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I would have thought so, iirc it was production up until July 2005 that could have the issue according to the TSB.

Again, iirc the Colour Collection was a base model (T2) plus metallic for a significant discount over the T2.

Think with the Colour Collection there were also differences in the interior fabrics, etc.

Toyota continued with the Colour Collection theme with the Corolla, where the Colour Collection was priced between the T2 and T3, based on the higher spec T3, and had the bodykit, different alloys and interior trim, and was limited to three metallic colours.

The first generation Auris also had a Colour Collection which was based on the TR, was priced between the Edition and the TR, and had different wheels and interior trim.

I had a 2003 1.8vvti T2 and still have a 2006 2.0d4d colour collection and both trim was the exact same nothing different at all.the vvti had oil burning issues but I still see it driving about just keep an eye on the oil if you really want the car or check for something around 07 to be sure?

I went to view the car today. On first appearance it looked immaculate but upon closer inspection the valeters hadn't done a great job and it was pretty grubby in all the nooks and crevices. However, the engine sounded as sweet as a nut, the oil looked fine and I didn't see any evidence of leaks from reservoirs or hoses. I couldn't hear any rattles or nasty noises and the mileage is showing at 62k. The tyres were good and the body looked ok. It had the usual dings and chips which are to be expected on a car that age. The problem came when I inspected the boot. I lifted the carpet and discovered standing water in the nearside inner wing, just behind the back wheel. I decided to walk! Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem with the Avensis?

Thanks.

Hi

I have a 2007 tourer and about a year ago the rear light clusters started filling with water. The cluster is held onto the body by three nuts. I took out the cluster, cleaned it up and the gasket and bodywork (lots of mud and slime), put some silicone grease around the gasket and refitted it and has not leaked again yet. (You have to detatch the actual light assembly inside the cluster by unclipping it)

Anyway this could be a possible cause of water entering the boot well.

Best Wishes

I had water in the rear inner wing on a newer shape Avensis saloon. There's a vent approx at bumper height and the seal had gone.

So maybe I shouldn't be too worried by the water if it's a common Avensis niggle?

Had water in the side rear panels too.i just give them a clean out and dry it.i put wax on the inside to stop it rusting going to do the light cluster thing too and blow out any of the rain channels hopefully it helps..

Isn't it strange in this day and age how a car manufacturer can end up sending cars out with this sort of basic problem? Cars today come with computerised this and that, gizmos, high-tech gadgets, aids that even park the car for you, yet they still can't make a car that doesn't leak. You'd have thought they'd have mastered this sort of thing decades ago.
