Toyota Diesels

Hello

I have just purchased my first Toyota car.

I normally go for Peugeot or Fords but this time I thought will
try something different.

The model is the Toyota Avensis a late 2006 2.2 D2D Diesel with 118k on the clock.

I only just discovered that there is an issue with these
cars in terms of the head gasket.

Was it all models that were effected or just a large batch?

There are plenty of reports of head gasket problems in anything that engine is fitted to, including Lexus. It's not all of them, and bear in mind that nobody posts their good experiences on forums, just their bad ones. Hopefully you'll have a good one.

Potentially all production up until February 2009. However, as Allan said only a very small % actually develop it.

Toyota had a goodwill programme for it but your car would be out now on both age & mileage.

Did you buy privately or from a trader? If from a trader you have much stronger consumer protection.

It was bought off a trader.

I have a 3 month warranty anyway. it was a fleet car up to 80k then privatley owned, surely there would of been a HG issue by now :ermm:

If you just bought it (Oct. 1st 2015>) you are covered by the new Consumer Rights Act 2015.

"Between 30 days and 6 months

If a fault comes to light after 30 days but before 6 months have passed then you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund. It is assumed in law that the fault was present at the time of purchase unless the seller can prove otherwise. During this period, unless you have agreed otherwise, the seller (dealer) has only one opportunity to repair (or replace) the faulty vehicle after which, if they fail to repair it, you are entitled to a refund.

In the event of a refund following a failed attempt at repair during the first six months the seller is permitted to make a 'reasonable' adjustment to the amount refunded to take account of the use that you have had of the vehicle since you bought it."

Most of them didn't start showing until 40k> The fact that it was a fleet car probably pounding motorways is potentially a good thing. A lot of the issues with modern common-rail turbo-diesels are due to them being driven for short journeys for which they are not suited (never fully warmed up, DPFs if fitted don't get a chance to regenerate etc.).

Thanks for that.

I had feeling a new legislation was being brought in but was unsure what it actually entails.

So the "Sold as Seen" nightmare is over

Sold as seen has not been available for very many years......thankfully

ANYBODY selling a car as a trader MUST comply with new legislation or he is breaking the law
