Rav 4 Doors Lock Themselves

Hi

Our 2001 Rav 4 has developed the habit of locking its doors for no apparent reason. This has even happened whilst stationary and with the drivers door open.

the car was second hand and did not come with a remote fob so we are only using the key to lock and un lock. Sometimes it will re lock the door before the driver can get in.

Has this happened to anyone else? is there a cure?

Thanks

Pete

The car will lock itself after 30 seconds of being unlocked if it thinks no one has got into the car, the way it tells this is to watch the drivers door being opened, usually the cause of incorrect locking is a faulty pin switch on the drivers door meaning the car can't see the door being opened and re-locking the car as it assumes the unlocking was accidental.

As above it'll most likely be the switch, swap the drivers side and passenger side over to confirm, it's a 5 minute job. They're as cheap from a dealer new with warranty as they are on eBay but in all honesty it probably just needs a decent clean as they're very simple.

Thanks guys. It seems to have cleared up with the warmer weather. My guess being that at minus 27C the switch may have frozen and we we are up to minus 5 it is working.

thanks again

Peter
