Brakes Peddle Goes Really Hard

Hi, recently I have experienced a problem, particularly when at lights or parking. At low speeds when I press the brake peddle the warning light comes on. Sometimes in traffic the peddle will go really hard and there is little braking effect. I suspect the servo is faulty but at normal speed there is no warning light or hard peddle, so far! Any ideas most welcome

Petrol Or diesel and whats the mileage ?

55 plate, diesel with 133000 miles 2.0 l

OK pedal going hard at low engine speeds but OK at higher speeds suggests a lack of vacuum assistance to the servo. On your car the vacuum pump should have been overhauled with new pump blades and seals at 120k, has this been done?

Thanks for that. The pump hasn't been overhauled so will get it checked out.
