Toyota Avensis Verso 2L Petrol

Gents, and ladies,

Owned this car for many years and always done good service.

Parked up for two weeks as we went to Florida for holiday over Christmas and New Year.

Flat Battery when we came back but more that that strong petrol smell when car started and on journey home. Smell is worse when stationary and putting on the recirculation button gets rid of the smell. The catalytic convertor. I suspect, is on it's way out as the engine light comes on (I switch it off using ODB reader) with errors pointing to cat not working at the correct efficiency level.

MPG seems slightly higher that normal but keen to see if any one has had similar problems and can point me in the right direction. Car is 2002 and done 124k miles but is still going strong. It might be time to sell it but it's been absolutely brilliant as a family car and need it to do one more journey taking a washing machine from Aberdeen to Ayr.

Any ideas of thoughts...
