Hello,

I would like to install a wireless backup camera on my E12 Corolla which will be installed in the number plate light hole and will be connected with a MTCB head unit.

Did anyone of the forum already installed this kind of (wireless) camera on his Corolla, and can you indicate me in that case the steps that would be followed (for hide
the cables, etc.)

The transmitter of the camera should be installed in the rear of the car connected to the reverse light, but the receiver needs also be powered in the front side.

Could you please tell me where can I find in the front of the car (around the glove compartment) the cable of the reversing lights and which is its color?

I would like to use this cable as power source for the receiver in order to switch on the transmitter and receiver of the camera only in reverse gear (not constantly).

I’ve found in the following link a doc which suggests on page 26 that the red / blue cable is the reverse sensor wire. Is that the cable that I need?

Any suggestion or indication will be very useful for me.

Thank you in advance for your kind help.

Best regards.

Hi,

Not a mod I have done so cannot offer any specific help there, however for the sake of easily running a couple of cables from front to back would remove most of your connection problems and avoid some of the wireless troubles you can get.

Unlike that pdf you do not have to remove all the trims, you can often just push the cables under the trim in situ.

The reversing light is activated by a switch on top of the gearbox, so you can see its colour and hopefully see where it comes inside the cabin.

My other thought, to complement my front recording camera, would be to also make the rear view camera the continuous recording type, not just for reversing, so if someone rear ends you, you have the evidence of who has done it .

Hello,

Thank you for the illustration. I will try to identify this cable in my car.

I have also the wired version of my backup camera but I would like to use the wireless option in order to simplify the installation and the cabling inside the car...

It's interesting indeed your idea to use permanently the rear view camera for recording, but for me it will be sufficient for instance to use it in a standard manner.
