I have a 2001 corolla 1.4 and for it's age it runs without fault. I have noticed though that when stationary with the engine idling the revs increase when I turn the steering wheel right or left. Does anyone know why this happens since it doesn't do this on the wife's corsa or the son's chevvy. The revs don't rise dramatically, just a couple of hundred above idle.

Think its the ecu increasing the revs for the extra power needed to operate the power steering, most noticable on full lock, though think its more on older cars with fluid power steering than electric.

Could get the same sympton on my old Avensis, but never noticed it on the electric steering of my Corolla

Thanks for that, if it's not indicative of a fault then I'm happy to ignore it.
