Engine Check Light

I have a Mk2 MR2. I am a new member on here. Anyway the car is a JAP import. I bought it without the air conditioning belt attached. However driving back the other day and the check engine warning light came on and also another light that looks like a box with curly lines coming from the top ( what is that btw). The car smokes slightly and starts ok. The Battery light also comes on which may or may not point to the alternator though the belt is tight. However I noticed 4 pulleys without a belt. Am I a belt missing as I am not familiar with the MR2 set up. My other car is a 450bhp 300ZX Twin Turbo. I know them inside out. But this has got me stumped.

Thanks

Ozzy

If memory serves correct the box with wavy lines is the Cat' overheat warning. You can read fault codes stored on the ECU (should tell you why the engine check light came on AT LEAST). Take a look here http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/modules.php?name=Se...article&artid=3

Are you sure you are seeing the missing belt thing correctly, They are wide ribbed belts so you might just be misinterpreting what you're seeing.

You might be better off posting in the MR2 section, maybe a kind moderator will move the posting.
