2.0 Vvti Or 1.8Vvti

Hi All,

I am replacing my car but a bit undecided due to certain factors. i.e. availability in my area. I am not sure whether to get 57 plate 2.0 vvti or 57plate 1.8 or even 58 plate 1.8. I am a bit unsure about 2.0 vvti because its now discontinued. I definitely like the 1.8 which is a more honed unit. Also are there any issues with oil consumption around 2.0 vvti?

Regards,

Waqar

Hi Waqar, I have looked and found a few cars that will be of interest to you. I have PM the page.

Stick with the 2007/2008 1.8 petrols. As you said well sorted and easier to maintain. The 2.0 vvti is a direct injection engine, so is different to the 1.8 1zz engine. Oil consumption is not an issue with any Toyota petrol after 2005.

Also VED will will higher with the 2.0l, as well as the fuel consumption. The extra torque means longer gearing so less revs at motorway speeds. Also it is faster (on the autobahn). Cruise control is available on the bigger engine - you have to get a Mk3 1.8 for the same. T-Spirit not available it 1.8 (could be wrong).

There are a lot of cars out there and you need to just avoid the pre-facelift and cars that have not been cared for.

Happy hunting Waqar.

Agreed with Konrad-I exchanged a 03 1.8 for a 08 1.8 and I am pretty pleased. The car seems slightly bigger, averages 35-36 overall and up to 41 on a run, I like the semi automatic box which seems to rev a little lower in D but that might be my imagination, the oil issue I was concerned would develop on my 03 is gone (no oil usage in 6000 miles), I find the reversing sensors very good (avoided running over a guy who was bent down fastening a shoelace in a supermarket car park could not see at all but sensors saved him!), fold in mirrors with indicators are good. All in all a good reliable car apart from more tyre noise than some cars but I can live with that.
