Avensis wipers won't turn off

The wipers on my Avensis started going full speed the other day even though the switch was turned off, I can't get them to turn off, I tried a new wiper switch and motor and neither made any difference. What could be wrong?

Just a thought. Have you had any water ingress into your electrics?

Waqar,

Does your car have auto wipers as the sensor needs to be clean. Make sure the windscreen is spotless.

Also if the is a problem with the auto wiper function The sensor can be plugged from the head-lining rear view mirror area.

Thats true, While clearing ice off my screen this morning, the sensor kicked in after i had scraped of some of the ice. They just started going off with a mind of their own, so definitely do check that. Thats assuming your wipers are auto. Looking at your car profile, its likely these are auto.

Waqar,

Auto wiper sensor. Windscreen may have something on it, triggering the wipers.

Let's hope this is only that issue.

Someone said to me that it could be the fusebox in the glove compartment? Could this be?

Right Mark, I thought it was Waqar, but the advice is aimed at you.

Most recent Avensis depending on the spec level, will have auto wipers, hence the rain sensor in the windscreen. Any dirt or water covering the sensor will make the wipers operate. Make sure the wiper sweeps over the sensor properly and the blade is not split, meaning it is not cleaning the sensor area properly. The sensor can be disconnected if the system has no off position.

Then if it is an electrical fault, an auto electrician may be needed.

I was going to say that the relay was probably stuck, but you tried another wiper switch so ......?????

Maybe this electric diagram of your wiper system will help you.

If you change the fusebox in the glovebox can you get a secondhand one or does it have to be programmed to the car by the dealer?

Could it be to do with whatever mechanism is used as a parking switch in the wiper motor.

But if that was the case would it not have been fixed when I changed the motor?
