Hi,

I have driven my car to the local garage cos it was overheating.  They repaired a cylinder head gasket £900 to £1000 (sump had to be removed?), but now they say that cmu needs repairing, if this needs a new one £1000 more. Does this stack up?

What's a CMU? Do you mean the CPU? If so then yes, that will be ~ £1,000

Hi Woz, if it's the ECU then check out ECU Testing in Derbyshire, Mr Google is a very Good friend, the ECU hides behind the glove box and is secured by security type Torx screws, Had a bad problem with mine, sent it off to these guys, was back in a week, Top Class service, 6 emails that keep you fully informed, nice people to talk to, fully refurbished, and going "like a Swiss watch" and well worth it at £240, BTW there's a great thread regarding ECU's and Automatic gearbox problems, that really covers ECU removal, hope this helps 😃

I would second Cliff's endorsement of ECUTesting. Our previous 4.2 was struck down by the gearbox ECU gremlin and ECUT re-flashed it; whole process took 3 days and car ran fine afterwards. Highly recommended.
