Dip in RPM

hi All,

Probably just nothing but I thought I ll get in touch anyways.

I recently bought an avensis estate 1.8 2008 Petrol. Noticed for the first time yesterday that If i leave the car to idle or coming up to a stop in traffic without any lights on or anything on which will demand car to raise its rpm (i.e. loading the car), the rpm dropped to 600 and then recover. its a sinking feeling which doesn't fill the driver with confidence. The car has always been serviced at Toyota and is in very good condition(i know it doesn't mean to say its had new spark plugs or filters. Its done 92,000 miles and last service was in october 2015). I am not overly worried about it but would like to know if I can pre empt an upcoming problem. If you know what I mean.

Regards,

Waqar

Waqar, I would not worry too much. It could be a fluke occurrence, but one to keep an eye on. When pulling up, did you did the clutch early?

My guess is, that the engine had shut the fuel down quickly using the road wheels to keep the engine running. This means the least amount of fuel is going into the cylinders. At idle more fuel is injected, and more load increases the amount of fuel, raising the idle speed. Think fuel saving.

I have done the opposite by lt the clutch up and the engine idle speed increased. Also the TRC, VSC and ABS, plus other speed sensors can be linked to the ECU. It won't be any of those unless a wheel slipped on a drain or diesel.

Anyway log down what you did and when it happened.
