Programming new spare key (with remote)

Hello, I've bought a new spare key with the remote built in (its a OEM one from a main dealer), following instructions on here I did the key in, door slamming etc and it now starts the car however........the remote fob blipper doesn't work. 

Are there any instructions that I can re-follow and does the above instructions work permanently (i.e. I don't want to use the key one day and find its left me stranded!)

There are various methods on th e internet for reprogramming keys, and some are given in the following tutorial -

It is a matter of trial and error to determine whether they work or not for your car ....
