Fault with audio system in verso vvti t3 s-a petrol 18cc 2005

We have a fault with the in car audio system.

It started about two weeks ago, The system would shut down with a pop.

But it would then come back on when you restarted the car.

All of the lights & display are there all the time. With no info loss.

The cd player would work for a bit with out the radio.

But over time it is getting worse, today it just came back on when it was switched off as it was not working anyway.

But when it came back on with a very loud crackling with all the light & display there, I could not shut it down or quieten down.

So to me all the lights & display are working !

So are  the Speakers !

It has a fault come up on the display sometimes it is "ERR1" or "REE1" I can not remember which one it is (sorry)

Can some one out there help me with this one.

At the same time, am I looking at a new audio system ? If so can I put in a newer model one with a sat nav built in ?

Thank you all
