Hi Folks - Looking for any idea's or guidance on some issues caused by a Dashcam install at Halfords. I have a 2009 Aygo MMT and wanted a tidy dash cam installation so a bought a Nextbase 402g packaged deal from Halfords including all the parts and the installation. I had an appointment yesterday afternoon for the fitting where they 'hardwired' into the fusebox behind the instrument cluster. I let them to it and it took about 30mins.

On my way out of the car park I noticed abs and handbrake warning lights had come on but these then went out again. A little further along an the speedometer stopped working but as with the warning lights it started working again. I hoped this might be a minor temper tantrum that would sort itself out. I was wrong.

This morning I got the ABS and handbrake warning lights again coming on and going off intermittently. Then when indicating I got the rapid clicks suggesting a bulb had blown. This was also an intermittant issue, sometimes working fine and sometimes not working. I opted to take it back to the Halfords store to get it seen to. During the drive everything seemed to be working, but pulling into their fitting bay the left front indicator started playing up again. Their mechanic/fitter initially said it was just an issue with the bulb, but testing showed it wasn't blown. He then proceeded to try removing the installation. By this point both front and side indicators and side lights and dipped headlights have stopped working. He tried replacing headlight bulbs which he said were broken but this did not fix anything. They then disconnected the Battery and reconnected. This also didn't fix anything, and the ABS warning light & Handbrake light were lit all the time. At this point (probably after an hour of fiddling/dismantling) they gave up and have asked me to take the car to the local Halfords autocentre on Monday. There was bad traffic on way out of the car park but as soon as I joined main road it became apparent the MMT gearbox was now upset - and it refused to automatically or manually shift out of first gear. I had to pull over and restart to get this working but I now have ABS/Handbrake/gearbox warning lights and the MMT gearbox works for about 3 mins before jamming in first gear. I had to pull over 5 times in 2.5mile journey home. I have serious concerns about getting the car to the halfords autocentre on Monday with no indicators/ lights, and one gear!

Questions - Is there any easy fix for the gearbox issues - I think this must have been caused by disconnecting the Battery? Has anyone had any similar issues with electrical systems following hard wiring of accessories? I'm surprised at how many issues something that appears so simple has caused - and concerned that disconnecting the dash cam has not fixed the problems. The car was only serviced by Toyota a few weeks ago and working fine so these are not pre-existing issues.

Hello - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

I would say it is Halfords' responsibilityto sort this out. Having said that, as the Multi Mode Transmission isn't the easiest to work with, I suspect that you may end up taking it into your Toyota dealer to get it properly sorted - but as far as I'm concerned this should be at Halfords' expense! When you take it into Halfords Autocentre, get them to consult with your Toyota dealer.

Basically Halfords have done the biggest ***** up imaginable. You could have just hidden the wires behind the panelling without wiring it into the fuse box.

the person that fitted the cam for you at Halfords must be competant to do the task asked of him and i feel Halfords should of sent him on a course

in automotive wiring to ensure they are only allowing employees who are capable of completing such tasks ,therefore Halfords should

have some form of certificate to say a certain employee has achieved certain creditations, ask for the certificate for the person involved if they cannot

provide such information they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you took it further.

Quick Update on this - The Halfords autocentre weren't able to see me on Monday but finally got an appointment yesterday and staggered over. They had the car for half a day and appear to have fixed the issues, apparently one of the plugs in the back of the speedometer had been knocked slightly out of place. I'm a bit surprised at how many issues this caused and how the guys at the store didn't manage to pick it up but after 5 days without being able to use the car I'm just glad its working again. They have just sent me a request for a trust pilot review so will be giving them some honest feedback there as for me their fitting service certainly didn't save time & money!

glad you got sorted. In future I would get this sort of thing done by a specialist auto electrician who does these sort of installations all the time rather than trusting Halfords.
