USB Issue - Faulty Stereo?

I have a 16GB Toyota USB stick that I've saved about 3GB's worth of music onto to listed in the car (2012 Avensis with the Toyota Touch & Go touchscreen).

In USB mode, after listening to about 4 or 5 tracks, it will suddenly freeze and stop playing a track midway through, which is very annoying. When I plug in the USB at the start of a journey, a message has started to come up very briefly on the touchscreen saying something about the power supply is too great on the USB device and that it's going to shut it down. All a bit odd, as it's just a standard USB stick that's Toyota-branded.

Has this fault happened to anyone else with one of these stereos? I've bought another USB made by a well-known maker of memory storage and copied the music across to it, which I'll be trying to see if it's the stick or the stereo.

Car is still under warranty, but how easy would this be to fix - it will either be the head unit or the USB port in the armrest storage box, but how could either be tested?

Finally, is it possible to retrofit the DAB version of the same head unit (mine's a TS spend, but later 2013 Icon versions had the same stereo, but with DAB).

would have thought that you could retrofit the DAB version quite easily although I am not sure if you would also have to modify/replace the antenna too.

Of course you could probably also replace it with a 3rd party DAB head unit for less.

If you want to go the official expensive route, here is the link:- http://www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/%7B32C6A3C3-CDED-3E2F-841C-FE4FB3DFCDED%7D/Avensis_DAB_RHD_PZ473_T0210_A0_AIM_001_251_2.pdf

As your car is in warranty, then the USB issue is covered. You will know after testing the third party USB memory stick, if it is a corrupted memory stick or the audio system itself.

I use a third party USB adapter which works well and has bluetooth, in addition to the built in bluetooth. It plugs into the rear of the audio unit, just like the genuine. The only weakness with my unit is no track/artist display, and no iPod support. iPods/iPhone can playback via bluetooth.

I think your USB stick may be corrupted, but also check how it is set up and the source material coding. Higher quality/less compression can cause issues too.
