Yaris engine keeps cutting out

While back our 2005 Toyota Yaris 1.4 d4d had water in the fuel, had the fuel tank drained replaced  fuel injection pump with a second hand pump about 5 or 6 fuel filters, car run good for a few months, then engine started cutting out on runs over 30 miles . Now the engine cuts out at 3,000 rev's and is really hard to get the car started.. Once the car has started it idles good the car rev's up ok and drives good providing I stay under 3,000 rev's when driving. Toyota dealer diagnos  fault code  DTC P1229 said fuel injection pump was faulty. as I said the car runs good once it is started providing I keep it under 3,000 rev's

.

Any idea what the problem might be

Fuel pump I would guess.

P1229 indicates your fuel pump is not creating the level of fuel pressure required by the engine control unit, pump failure is rare more common is " Black sludge" in the diesel fuel. Google the issue, we are seeing the issue more and more at the dealers due to the higher level of water in older diesel fuel tanks and the addition of bio fuel to standard diesel. remove your fuel filter, fuel heater and look for the signs, if you see it drain, clean & refill your tank with fresh diesel replace the fuel filter, clean the heater and add an additive designed to combat the "sludge" on a regular basis.
