Timing belt confusion

Now on my second RAV4 with a "T Sport Yaris in between, I have always assumed that these engines have chain driven cam shafts, yet I read in one of the other Topics that they also have a Timing belt? So I am confused ( mind you, that doesn't take much)  My first one (a 97) had 216,000 mls and still going like a Swiss Watch when I sold it, never worried about timing belt change, Please put me out of my misery someone, and explain, do I now need to get my 78,000 miler in for a timing belt change, BTW car is a 2002 2ltr Auto petrol

2ltr petrol models have a timing chain and no belt, diesel models have the timing belt so no need to worry .

No probs another advantage of the petrol over the diesel, no turbo or dmf to worry about either , just a little bit more thirsty but otherwise bullet proof.

Yip, Phil, I agree with you there, I think the RAV4 is so very underestimated, though the diesel has a few problems, my daughter is on her second one in Brisbane in Oz, loves them, I would never be with out one, even though I am trying to sort out the dreaded MIL light with a P0141 code, bank 1 sensor 2, awaiting a Lambda socket to arrive, Take care 😉
