OK. After a years happy motoring my 1975 Hiace went for its MOT and unfortunately failed because of the cylinder brakes. Having searched for camper and seen the many posts requesting help because the brake cylinders (or break pads) have eroded I think it should be time we got our heads together. The first post was last year, now please don’t tell me all the lovely Hiaces are being scrapped as they are far more beautiful than the VW. I understand (from Toyota) that these cylinders haven’t been produced for years and that those still in existence would by now be suffering the same fate. One option we have is to undergo a massive feat of engineering (for a complete novice) and change the system to disc brakes, there is no way I could afford to pay for a mechanic to do that. So has anyone got any ideas, suppliers or even (ha, ha, ha) some brake cylinders, I won’t hold out any hopes for the last.

So you lot who have or are experiencing the same problems as me, what can I do? (I am not going to scrap the bugger). Please post a reply or contact me directly at val36@lycos.co.uk

Cheers.

Val
