Hi Guys,

This may be absolutely nothing to worry about, but it kinda worried me guys a little this afternoon.

Okay, so i did a 2-3 mile trip earlier today to drop my brother off at a car hire company, he has a Jaguar Sports for the weekend, but thats not important, anyway, i assume my engine must have been on cold, even at point of dropping him off, we then raced just a little on the way home, i must have hit say 40-50 for say 10 seconds to overtake him, and then at some lights, i smelt a horrible, sort of burning smell, not like rotten eggs though, inside the cabin, and then noticed what looked like white smoke all around my car, other drivers certainly looked at me!!! I came home, the engine was certainly warm by now, Parked up, gave her a few revs, saw a few light puffs of smoke, and then all back to normal, revved her quite hard for some time after this and not a puff since, although i also noticed that she wasnt dripping with water like it normally does. The engine drives and pulls like a dream. Coming up to 2 months that ive had her i have had no issues what so ever...well nothing serious.

I am in a slight panick, thinking dpf...turbo...5th injector issues...injector seals etc etc.

what do you guys think? I only fill her with Shell v power guys in case you wonder!

please help or is it one of those issues...it could be anything???

Could be condensation in the exhaust. Would defo say not dpf and if it was injectors it'd run rough

THANK YOU thom1983, that's exactly what I thought, I haven't done many miles this week, and the few that I did were mostly on cold, I think all is okay hopefully, I admit that I panicked for a moment though!

Can't say for sure, but I will say when I've gone for a massive thrash in my D4D with the heater on I sometimes get that burning dust smell, esp if I haven't ragged it for a while. IT's not that bad tho' so probably not be what you're talking about

Dunno about the white smoke; It may have been water vapour or diesel depending on what it looked/smelled like.
I wonder if there was some residual diesel stuck in the DPF which your thrash forced out the exhaust? That would account for the white smoke.

I do feel my engine does benefit from me taking it for a good ol' hoon now and then to get it really really hot; It always feels much smoother and looser afterwards :) For sure, if I haven't done it for a while, the first time I floor it I'll get a plume of smoke out the back as all the crap in the exhaust gets blown out in one go! (Always a fun surprise for tailgaters :naughty:)

Could be that the DPF started a regen but couldn't complete?

@Heid - Yeah, could be the short overtake burst triggered the 5th injector to squirt diesel into the exhaust, but when she stopped at the lights it lost temp and couldn't burn properly any more and instead turned into 'airshow smoke'

This is all speculation tho'...

I wouldn't worry about it unless it kept doing it personally...

This is why I love my Mk1 - It doesn't have any of this crap :D
