Using battery maintainer through OBD port on RAV 4.3

Does anyone have any experience of using a Battery maintainer connected through the On Board Diagnostics port? Does it work on a RAV 4.3?

I'm thinking about using a Halfords cable.

Hi Niklaus,

Although I have not tried this on a 4.3 I am in the process of doing the same thing on my 4.2, this method seems to be one of the most popular ways of trickle charging with a solar panel on vehicles where the auxiliary/accessory sockets are isolated when the ignition is turned off.

Pins 4 and 16 are wired as chassis earth and Battery power as standard on the obd2 socket and the solar panel will charge the Battery through these.

I have an old mx5 that comes out if we get a bit of summer so the RAV might sit for a few weeks not being used and reading reviews elsewhere this system seems to work quite well.

Just in case anyone else is considering doing this maplin have a 2.4W solar panel on offer until Monday 29th for £14.99 instead of £24.99 with free delivery.
