Hi, I've had my corolla for about 6 - 7 years now and it had done me proud. The engine has always made a high pitched rattle when in the low gears or when at 70mph. Even though it makes the noise, it always seems to drive well.

It's only now that I'm addressing the noise because I'm trying to sell it and it's worrying people.

Can anyone tell what it might be from the video attached? I took it to a mate that's a mechanic and he looked inside the manifold and took the rocker off and said all is fine there.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Kelvin.

Sounds like a rattling heat shield, if it's been doing it for a while with no ill effects then don't worry about it, maybe you could adjust the selling price to reflect the issue.

Hi,

Not something I have experienced, but as Yusuf says it could be a rattling heat shield or a leak around the manifold or what has been reported is that inside the inlet manifold there are some "baffles" that can become "loose" and cause a noise, there is a cheap diy  fix by drilling a hole and inserting a long screw, a new manifold probably cost more than the car, knowing toyota prices .

If you think it could be that, search this forum and you will find the relavant posts.
