Tyre wear

Hello all. I went to get two new tyres on my 2008 D4D diesel Avensis, they were the rear ones. One tyre was worn, as if the tracking or camber was out, I have never come across this on rear tyres, is it adjustable or is it a new part required?

Maybe a previous owner swapped one at some point?

The rear suspension is adjustable but before you take it in for tracking or as part of the tracking, check for wear on the suspension. Normally they do the rear as part of doing all four if you go to a tyre place so you may end up with the fronts done too.

I have had the car for three years now so I think maybe this one is out, I would have thought the wear would have been uneven around the circumference, mine was worn at one side all the way round. Plus no rumbling.

As I have said above  I have had the car too long for this, but thanks again

I am too long in the tooth now to crawl about under the car, but I do have a local garage who I know and trust so I will ask them to check this for me at my earliest opportunity.

Thank you all very much, I have had a few cars of various makes over the years and none have been new and I have not experienced this so I thought I would ask those who would know.

I remember a post on here last year (?) about the rear lower suspension arm on an Avensis that was nearly rusted through and it was going to cost an arm and a leg to replace it. Have you never had any advisories on you MOT?

I had the car serviced about 4weeks ago and nothing was mentioned at the time, although I have not got any faith in the place it was serviced.

The reason it was serviced by these people is that at the time I bought the car I paid for 5 years service and mot's up front along with a guarantee.

To cut a long story short the company I bought the car from went bust last year and the receivers got someone else in to do servicing and mot's. These people doing the service are nationwide so I thought I would be ok to go to them, I'm not sure now.

I was a bit concerned when I got home and realised they couldn't have had the wheels off, because the tie wraps I use to keep the hub-caps on were still in place, surely they would take the wheels off to check discs and pads, I know the company who did the first two services removed the wheels.

I don't know the suspension set up on the Avensis but most modernish cars have some rear adjustment. My own experience (Subaru Outback (wifes car) BMW X5's Merc;s Volvo's) is if there is rear odd tyre wear it will almost certainly be worn bushes (BMW use lurpack as Bush material I think)

Before spending the hard earned get them checked because if as Alan333 has said a previous owner spotted tracking wear had it sorted and swapped front to rear?

You need a proper alignment check done on the car and not just tracking, sometimes going over a large deep pot hole can cause the suspension to misalign.Have a look for your nearest centre,it is well worth the cost seeing as you have renewed the rear tyres if not rectified they will just continue to wear unevenly.

Have a look here  http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/..if they cant successfully align the car they will tell you what it needs to put it right ..HTH.
