Having to rev my engine so I don't stall.

Hi,

I brought my Toyota last week. It's a Toyota Yaris colour collection 2005 plate.

Whenever I'm trying to move from a stationary position, from e.g the end of the road or at a traffic light I am having to rev the engine just so I don't stall. I'm a new driver and the car I took my lessons in was really smooth, it wasn't a Toyota. Is this normal?

Thank you

Thanks for the welcome :)

petrol and it's 1.3 litre. The thing is people are saying it's not the car it's me who's unable to get the biting point and accelerate accordingly. If so what do I do. When I was driving a polo for my lessons I could feel the biting point it was so strong but with this car it's different. And I'm scared if I keep doing this in gonna ruin the car.

I would have taken it to the garage , but I don't know if it's happening cause I'm a new driver and I'm doing something wrong or if it's the cars fault.

My MOT is not due till July. Might have to take it in before then from the looks of it.

OK, it could well be that you haven't got used to the biting point on your car. Try taking it to somewhere quiet (car park late in the evening for example when there are few vehicles using it), and practice getting the biting point. Use as few revs as you can to move away.  Do that over a couple of days or until you're getting to grips with it. This way it doesn't matter if you make mistakes and stall it. Come back to us to say how you're getting on ....

Get someone who's been driving longer to test your car and see what they say.
