Hi all I have recently just purchased a Toyota  verso 2.2 d4d 2007 model.. absolutely love the car but it is blowing cold air out on passenger side and loosing coolant.. also thermometer light turning red intermittently. could it be anything other than the head gasket as I'm automatically thinking it's that? Praying it's not but its the only thing I'm seeing after reading about it.

Can you see where any coolant is coming out ?

The usual places for leaks are the hoses /clips. leaking radiator/cap  or heater matrix or worn out water pump bearings.

It could be the head gasket, but thats a replacable part, the expense would be the labour time, but should not be that bad ?

Either way, driving it in that condition will only make things worse, so get it to a garage and have a pressure test etc  to help locate the leak.

If looking for the leak yourself, do not do it with the engine running or still hot, if something burst  when you are looking you could get a face full of boiling water !

From looking online we are looking at thousands for head gasket replacment.. more than the car is worth.. Will be absolutely gutted if it is as love the car. I've already convinced myself it's the head gasket. It's booked in for tomorrow so will soon see. Just thought I'd post to see if these symptoms could be anything other than head gasket cos that seems to be the end result in mode forum posts. Cannot see a leak anywhere.. car is running well, only investigated as car was blowing cold air

Well you also say its loosing coolant and the temp warning light comes on, those are the more serious indicators.

How many miles has the car done, do you have the mot showing the recent yearly readings to prove it ?

Assume you bought it private, if the seller was in any way running as a business or a proper car dealer then you should be able to take it back to them to repair at no cost to you, if it was a very recent purchase ?

Cannot say anything about that 2.2 engine but whatever, get it checked out properly before doing anything else.

As regards the AD series engine, have a look at the following:

Has done approx 98000 miles.. unfortunately over the 7 years warranty.. not really looking very good that it could be a completely different fault as head gasket seems to be main complaint.

Car was bought privately on Saturday but don't think seller will be very helpful.

We have all mot certificates  and a few service stamps in book

Was it a genuine private seller, ie the log book shows they had owned the car for years, or suspect they might be 'private' dealers ?

Are you going to have it tested by Toyota or an independent  garage ?
