Hi there

I'm new to this site and a first time Toyota owner I bought my self a 2007 RAV4 t180 2.2 d-cat about 10 months ago to tow my caravan  to which it's brilliant my problem started about 2 months ago I was out driving and just seem to notice quite a lot of whitish/grey bluey smoke coming from the exhaust so from then on I kept an eye on it and it's been getting worse so I did some research and was astonished to see the amount issues that people are having with these engine I've read up on the dpf stuff !!! So in the end I called a local guy who does dpf and tearraclean services he done all the tests and said that the dpf is clear there are no faults on the system no historical ones we did find that the dpf pressure sensor was stuck static so I bought a new at a staggering £550 fitted it car run great for a day then back to smoking again not as much on a motorway but around town my mpg went up the day it stopped smoking I've had everything checked now all pipes are clear egr valve cleaned the only thing which I haven't done yet is the fuel filter I'm not using oil or water so I went back to the guy who run the tests the first time he was now getting a reading from the new dpf pressure sensor while the engine was running but every now and then the sensor would dip into the minus zone he seems to think it maybe an electrical fault

so guys  if any of you could give me some ideas to try or anyone that has experienced this problem could you please help me as this is really starting to get to me

thanks

One possible cause is a failed regeneration of the DPF due to a software error for which there is an update to the engine ECU, to get this you would need to ask your local dealer to update your software to a minimum version of 342E7000 reference Toyota Technical service bulletin EG-0004T-0110-EN.

Note the software version I quoted is the latest version and higher than that in the bulletin I mentioned and includes multiple software fixes.
