Making Bluetooth connection to Walkman

Is there a trick to linking these two together ?

9 times out of 10 the head unit reports a connection has been made and then about 5 seconds later, says it's been disconnected.

If you have the patience, eventually you will get a rock-solid link and can then put the player down on the passenger seat for example and it will work reliably.

I've tried removing the device and registering again to no avail. I'm guessing the only option to get hold of another player. I don't use a phone !
