Its all good he news on the new ae86 front, sourced a minter. Ill be purchasing very soon Yeeeeeee-Hawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its gonna cost a few quid but she will be worth it.

Sourced the full body kit I wanted, trying to sort out cheap shipping, the kits gonna cost the same as the car!!!!!!!!!!.

Convincing DANCO IRL to do the conversion for me plus the addition of a few performance pieces so ill have one serious twincam.

Anyone know where I can get a good set of coil-overs and other bits and pieces.

Want a set of Longchamps XR4 rims, or something simular if you get my drift!!!!!

When I get the car ill have to get a photobook of the conversion.

Go on then, How much and where did you find it?

What was the matter with the old '86?

Posted

Hi Eircam. Congrats on finding another minter. As for coilovers, Leda is making me up a set as we speak. Their telephone number is 01376 326531, and say that Joe at Banzai passed on your details.

I told yall that they are still out there, the story is that I phoned a mate who happens to be getting in an import ae86. Im going to see it, but he said that I can have his minter if its not up to the job. As for my own car, shes a good car but not a minter, the back pockets have been welded up and the aches have been done. This is gonna be the dream car, tryin to sort out a good 4agz now.

Banzaijoe, if I keep a photobook would you like to do a feature on the car???????

If you come over to Ireland ill organise at least 100 AE86ers!!!!!!!!! for the mag, all minters.

Theres a car show on in Limerick raceway this weekend, recon there will be plenty 86ers there. Theres a 1/4 mile for ae86s and then a diffing cometition. Its funny being back in Ireland, every few miles the road is blackened from Twincams doing doughnuts!!! Say a minter in Black the other day with a big sticker in the rear window saying "Catch me if you can Piggy"!!!! Ive seen a few of em in the past 3 weeks and a few kp Starlets at a rally last weekend, the Irish are very fond of the jap cars

Oh ya I sat in D Auriols seat the other week, yes baby got a tour of a Celica GT4 WRC, some car!!!!!! Must bring a digital camera the next time and get a few pics

Nice try on the photo book idea but, as you may have noticed from the latest issue, I'm doing that already on my own car. Can't have any competition ;)

Posted

If you cant have any competition in the mag you will have to have it on the track! lol

Hows the car going joe? Back from leda yet?

Posted

sorry for hijackin this post but where bouts r u from in ireland Eirecam AE86?

and wat was the rally u where at lately? are u goin to donegal this weekend? if u c a whitestarlet wif 4343 in the reg come over and say hi! there will prob be a few coupes aGT4 and a silver corrola not to far away!

The car's going really well, Trueno. Thanks! Just picked it up from Leda yesterday – took loads of photos of it being done for a feature in the September issue. You'll have to look out for that.

Now I'm just getting to grips with finding my ideal ride/handling balance. There are 22 steps of adjustment in the dampers (0 being soft and 22 VERY hard). Currently, I'm running 10 up front and 8 at the back, though I may harden up the rear end even more as it can sometimes feel a little slow-witted compared to the darty front. Also letting the suspension settle so I can fine-tune the ride height. Haven't got my tape measure out yet but the rear looks like it's about 35mm lower and the front about 50mm lower. Overall, very pleased :D

White Starlet, from Galway, livin in Cork and just back from College in the Uk if ya can get all that!!!!!, was at the circuit of munster not an international but there was still about 20 wrc cars. Drivin a red/black ae86 around the country side, easily identifiable as its always dirty!!!!!! work in the quarry/concrete game and dont even bother cleaning it now.

Banzaijoe what sort of money would i expect to pay for the coilovers, was the much alterations to be made to the car to make em fit???????????

Ive had a few offers on the car of late but wont be doing anything until i get the 2nd car on the road. Sorting out the Shell first and will then be thinking of the 4agz

Banzaijoe is there any pictures of your car knocking around????? wouldnt mind seeing em

Eircam: The list price for the setup I've got is just over £1000. It consists of fully adjustable coilovers up front which make use of the stub axle of your original setup welded into Leda's own damper. So if you fancied a set it would have to be done on an exchange basis. The rear is more simple – adjustable dampers and 35mm lowering springs.

If you want to see my Corolla in person, I'm attending all the Japanese car shows this year. It will be one of the cars displayed on our stand. You've missed Japfest but this weekend we have our own Banzai show at Santa Pod, and will also have a stand at JAE. As for photos, well... you'll just have to buy the mag, won't you ;) The first feature was in the July issue and it'll probably be in every subsequent issue for the next year or so before I move on to the next project.

Wouldn't make sense for me to give you every bit info free on this website ;)

That seems a bit on the expensive side, one try eBay or sompthin simular for a suspension. Im happy with the konis I have on the front but the rear is a bit of a problem, the thing is Ill be drivin in ireland every so-often and too-stiff a suspension is not a good idea. Saw a lovely untouched tcam getting destroyed lately because the rear was too stiff, fatigue cracking all around the rear strut mountings.

Posted

Glad to hear all is going well, i wuz hoping to make it to santa pod this w/end to go up the strip and see your car but i got to work all w/end! (crap!!) Hopefully go to JAE!

I do agree with eircam about the rigidness of the rear, plus too rigid makes it all a little twitchy on the rear when you dont want it to be!

But obviously your gonna set it up to your own preference!

Whats next on the list then!?

Oh and whens the next banzai mag out!? I cant find a date in the mag!?

Posted

Yes, these coilovers are quite expensive. But you get what you pay for in life. I doubt that any companies/persons offering cheap setups will have bothered to remanufacture the complicated stub axles – they can't be fitted without them.

As you can tell by the settings I've started on, I'm at the softer end of the damping scale. The ride is firm but compliant and perfectly acceptable for everyday use. The only time I believe in having a hard setup is on track. I think you'll find that a car with plenty of well-controlled give in its suspension will thrash another car with rock hard suspension across country every time.

In other words, there's no way I plan to have the rear suspension poking all the way through into my boot!

Next on the list is to get my uprated Whiteline anti-roll bars fitted and full set of poly bushes. Got a Cusco front strut brace on order, and I've already got a Cusco brace for the rear. Not sure if I'm actually going to fit that latter item as I think it may mean cutting the plastic boot trim – not keen on doing that as the whole idea about this car is to be sympathetic, not doing anything which can't easily be reverted back to standard.

We'll see...

Posted

To hell with it, take the plastic trim off the inner wheel arch and put it in the shed!!!!

Who is goin to see it any way. I desperately need payday to come soon, need a new starter motor and all new poly bushes for the rear.

Posted

Banzaijoe: Where can you get Cusco products from then!? I was after a rear strut brace but unable to find any 1 who makes them!

Got the new banzai mag, I bet that Toyota garage you took the GT :crybaby: to cleaned the w/shop before you took photos, cuz are Toyota w/shop never looks that clean! Especially with white tiles!

Did the technician road test the '86 after the service!?

Oh and I wuz hoping of maybe a little piccy of me and my mates '86 at japfest! Even if it was only a small photo! As we were the only 3 there! Oh well maybe next time. :crybaby:

Posted

How did that crybaby smiley get halfway through the sentence! Pesky little devils! Haha

Posted

Trueno: I've got/am getting the Cusco products from Co-Ordsport (01384 216102). In fact, I'm probably going to be ordering loads more stuff from them – exhaust, flywheel, clutch etc. They can get it all for you from Japan, almost a one-stop shop.

Been to that Toyota garage many times, and yes, it is always that clean. It's quite a new dealership and is also one of the major ones in the south east, so it's used by Toyota GB to test out new products, such as that automated brake bleeding machine. The technician did take the car out for a test drive after the service, mainly to check on how the brakes were working. He seemed to come back with a grin.

You've probably noticed that the service feature has got messed up captions. Trust me, they weren't supposed to be like that. We ISDN'd down the right one to the printers but it somehow got corrupted. Not happy about that, I can tell you :ffs:

Posted

Nice one mate i'll give them a ring.

I didnt want to say nothing, as every caption was the same, so i thought it mite have been done on purpose for some strange reason!

Just aswell most of the pictures are self explanetry hey.

Posted

Eircam, how much is this 86 going to cost you thats coming in on import? I'm very curious to know as i'm in the middle of running a search for one in Japan.

Posted

Hi just joined today so sorry for butting in.

I have always loved my toyotas but did not know the prices of an ae86 were that HIGH. Spotted one in Manchester for the first one in about 10 years it was a red and black one last week, spoke to the driver, he got the car from Newcastle about 2 years ago. Knew he was not giving to sell but asked him anyway. I saw the superlites and thought he knows his motor and was not any tom, ***** or harry driving a Ae86

Just said no thankyou, but i gave him my number

But getting back to the matter in hand. Yes I would like to know how much this costing to ship from Japan

Posted

Think that guy in manchester comes onto this website every now and again.

This ae86 that Im going to see (import) will be about £3-3500, she should be worth it. Ive seen import ones advertised for over £6000. If the import isnt spottless the guy is gonna let me have a look at his own car an original english ae86. Either way i should be getting a minter, and no he wont sell the pair together he wants one for himself.

Bit off the topic, Eircam, but I bought a very nice Corolla Executive GL in Loughborough a couple of weeks ago. Rolled off Stena Line in Dunlaoghaire that night. Has UK tax till next May & has M.O.T. Have got it insured with Hibernian.

Papers were signed & I have a small tear off strip. Presume I will get some sort of papers from National Vehicle Reg in England.

Am I legal? What do I do next? Can I keep driving it till UK tax expires?

Any advice would be appreciated

Nice one, my own rolled outta dublin port wednesday night. I wouldnt worry too much about the paper work so-long as its comming, you will get 21 days to produce it anyway. Just make sure that your insurance covers you on the car, you can never trust em. My new ae86 will be in skerries on saturday, my brother lives up that direction, although i think he has bought a new house futher up the coast somewhere.
