Check VSC System/Check Parking Brake System

I have had the same problem with the braking system and vsc system lights. Initially it went off of its own accord but came back on about 3 weeks later. I took it to a mechanic who checked the car and said it was running fine. He ran a diagnostic which pointed to a misfire but he said there was no misfire. A misfire would have been a surprise to me as I had no loss of power, no fall in fuel consumption etc. He cleared the code but the lights have since come back on. Any ideas?

That's common issue on d4ds could be electric pin socket on to egr valve fail and throw up fault on dash then

Just reading all these comments makes me wish I never bought this avensis 2015. I have been through the mill with do this do that, don’t do this don’t do that, Toyota were a nightmare, egr are not covered by warranty, in the end I paid 1040euroes to replace egr valve and cooler, so now decided to sell car, what the hell Are Toyota doing,  certainly not providing customer care and reliability, which Toyota were founded on,

I was at Toyota they told me to drive car that I wasn't doing enough milage my d4d was service on time everytime air fuel everything done to car as Toyota would suggest and still dreaded egr valve blocked problem would arise at end went back to petrol Toyota which they do better plus a mechanic I no told me to stay the hell away from these trouble sum d4ds

It's not a big problem. When I service my car it also says "check parking brake system".
I turn off the Battery and turn it on again. Then it's gone.

I had the old petrol avensis for 15 years and when. I told my garage who took great care of my car , that I was looking at the  diesel he told me don’t touch it. As I am an OAP. And I don’t need a car like that, I should have listened to him,

Perhaps I've just been lucky, but we've had our Avensis 2.0 d4d for 5 years and it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned. It's on 90k now and the only problem has been a broken coil spring, fixed under the extended warranty. I bought it after having numerous problems with Peugeot and VW diesels in the past and it has been vastly better than either. Having said that I wouldn't touch the later BMW-engined versions with a bargepole!

That’s what I ended up with, if had known about the BMW , engine I would never have bought car, not many garages want to touch it, I always thought BMW were an iconic car, but too expensive or overpriced, but think they produced and engine like this beggars believe, in. This day of technology,

Hi Guys

I am having the same problem. I have had a new EGR valve fitted , the lights came back on a few weeks later. I had the whole system cleaned out (egr and dpf system), I changed the air filter , the lights stayed on for an hour or so then went off. They came back on about 4/5 hours later. I am not losing any power as far as I can tell, this is driving me nuts !

this thread has been an eye opener. i bought a 2010/11 avensis and have the same issue with the VSC/brake/Abs lights all on. Toyota garage ran a diagnostic and confirmed injector no1 problem. injector was changed but error persists. it has been in the garage longer than its been on the road.....lol

Check VSC/Parking brake lights being on is just a sign that there is a fault somewhere in the engine managment system, and could be caused by one of dozens of things. Unfortunately recent-ish diesels are complex beasts, and main dealers are not always the best at diagnostics on older cars. Might be worth trying to locate to independent specialist in either Toyota or diesel injection systems?

I had the same problem and I cleaned my diesel injectors and the problem disappeared! I used a bottle of LIQUI MOLY Diesel Purge

I have the same problem with the "Check VSC system" and "Check parking brake system" signals flashing in the dashboard of my Toyota Avensis combi (T27) (1.8 petrol engine). It's a 2010 model which I bought used from a Toyota dealer in 2014, and it has been running (more than 300.000 kilometers) like a dream ever since, always serviced by my usual independent mechanic. But last week I had to take it for an MOT and after that I went to a Toyota dealer just across the road from the MOT center. I so much regret doing that rather than going to my usual independent mechanic, who is 50 kilometers away, cause I asked the Toyota dealer to also change oil and filter. Instead of just changing oil and filter, they ran a basic service check, and part of the service check was to connect their computer/scanner to check the condition of the car/engine. When they handed back the keys to me, they told me that the cooler was leaking, so I should book another appointment with them. 

The next day the VSC/braking system warnings came on. My first thought was that the warning signals came on the dashboard because of a fault caused by the scanning/reading system (I don't know what it is called) that was connected to my car the day before. I have now made an appointment with the independent mechanic to have him check/replace the cooler and try to find out what to do about the VSC/braking system warnings. That's why I would like to hear your opinion of what I could suggest to him to do to fix the problem. Having read all the comments and answers to the original question in this thread hasn't exactly given me a clear picture of a solution to the problem. 

Has any of you also experiencing the same VSC/braking system warning problems ever suspected the reading/scanning system of causing the problems? It seems that many of you have tried out different ways of solving the problem, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent or standard solution. For some the solution has been to disconnect and reconnect the Battery or to access the fault scanning system and manipulate the system to ignore the faults (if I understand the comments correctly). These two approaches seem to also suggest a lack of trust in the fault reading system.

hi, i brought a 2011 toyota avensis 1.8 estate in from scotland and it said parking break inoperable, the warning light would flash and the handbrake woudn't kick in until i turned the car off. turned out it was a fault in the number one coil, once the coil was changed the fault went away.

Well, I have read too, and many other topics considering this matter and I have the same feelings...

Usually the persons who started the topics do not update if the error has been fixed and how ( not only at this forum but many others too).

So I´m a member of "the club" now with my T27 valvematic 1,8.

Suddenly last friday evening when I started the car after leaving the store, the yellow lights on the instrument panel started to shine (just like for Christmas!). There were engine symbol, VSC symbol, brake system symbol and the yellow triangle with exclamation mark inside. And the display alternated between "check vsc system" and "check epb system".  I drove home and didn´t notice any power lack at first but  just before home road the car wasn´t accelerating well.

I have cheap obd tester and it said there are two fault codes: P1047 and U011B (I know what they mean). I tried to erase them with no luck.

Yesterday I disconnected the Battery for 30min and after that there was some change: The P1047 was no longer visible and idling speed dropped between 400 - 500 rpm. The U011B was still there thought. And the situation remained the same otherwise (the lights, the texts).

Although I know the meanings for those fault codes I also know that sometimes the fault could be something else. I hate to think that I have to get some very expensive parts replaced. The value of my car is quite low already ( 355000km on the clock) but it has been served me well so far.

Any ideas (except to go to Mr T) are very welcome!

I will go to Mr T at some point but only if the local manager (I know him) is around so I get a bit of free advice... maybe in January.

I've been through this twice already
identical errors.
The cause is an injector that is bubbling a bit, and I simply solved this with a bottle of injector cleaner.

Thank´s for the reply!     But... I don´t quite understand how the bubbling injector could cause those fault codes (P1047, U0110B)? 

And as for the injector cleaner, I´ve been using it regularly (355tkm on the clock!).

I've been studying the subject of valvematic actuator a lot in the last few days and it looks like there may be no other way but to replace that device.

I don´t necessararily need the car, so there is no hurry. I would try to find a used part during winter and if i don´t, I will sell the car as it is in spring. Some breakers don´t want to sell the actuator separately, and those who are ready to sell are asking very high price. It would be relatively cheaper to buy the whole engine (€1000 or less) than €400 actuator.

As you may have noticed: Mr. T is not an option!

During the double reporting of the errors on the dashboard, he indicated with a simple obd2 reader "error injector on bank 1"
what is not visible on the dashboard.
Maybe an injector error cannot be reported on the dashboard, and it displays something else for this

I'm getting this error intermittently, Toyota ran a diagnostic and confirmed P062D error injector no 1 issue. They're recommending I replace all four which appears to be the standard from Toyota dealerships but it's very expensive. They said t's a known issue in the 1AD and if 1 is going, the others will be follow. I've a good relationship with my own Toyota dealer where I bought the car 5 years ago. Would injector cleaner make any meaningful difference? Recently I've dug out a mechanic who breaks a lot of avensises. He has one from a 2013, low mileage, he said he'd rarely see customers back for a second injector. He gave the impression all 4 going is not common. What has people's experience been? 140k km on the car. Not sure what to do.

Is there not a company that could send the injectors to that will service them and clean them out so they are like new again or is that just lies
