Avensis + Surfer = Help!

Hi all just purchased a beautiful T4 estate 2011. I'm a Surfer and I find the space perfect for my equipment and sleeping in!

Here's my problem... When I went for a surf,  with my old car I would lock my key in the car and open the door with a key I had cut just to open door (not to start car).

With new avensis I can get a key cut for the door but it wont work because the smart system will allow the doors to be opened when fob is inside the car.

Is there a way to disable this feature and allow me to leave fob inside car and lock doors manually from the lock in the door?

Thanks

Surely it would work if the fob was placed inside a foil-lined bag (or similar)  - the ones favoured by shoplifters to defeat security systems.

Good idea I'll give it a try.

Is there any way to change smart system settings?

I am a windsurfer & had the same problem to start with. Now I just use a small waterproof phone pouch with the fob in & tuck it in my wetsuit. You don't have to take it out from your wetsuit 'till you get changed. As a belt n' braces I also wrap the fob in cling film before I leave home.
