help needed please. cars undrivable

Hey guys while on the way to work this morning I hit lift and the engine sounded a little louder than usual. When u went to shift up I couldn't get into gear or any other gear. The engine is also louder and have a very bad vibration through the car. It almost sounds like lift if stuck on. With the engine off the gears go in no problem but won't with the engine started. I can get it into second and pull of normally but the engine doesn't sound the best.anyone any ideas what this could be? I think it's gearbox but not sure

Might be the clutch?

I can still pull off in second using the clutch but grinds when I try putting it in any gear with the engine running. Can the lift mechanism get stuck?

Had a similar issue in a 1.6 automatic, almost like as though the engine was bouncing around, turned out to be the big end/bottom bearing was about to let go, a mechanic told me that the engine was beyond repair, this was on a 2002-2004 pre face-lift model
