Corolla T - Sport On the Way Out?????

Hi all,

Hoping to get a good reply on this one.

As I have posted on here before, I have had numerous issues with getting warm air through my vents. I have had the thermostat replaced, the heater core flushed, and the coolant fully flushed and replaced. It gets nice and warm on a long run, but around town, it is coolish.

However, my coolant keeps constantly lowering and lowering in levels on the expansion tank, and today, it has gone PAST the low mark. I am not sure if there is a leak, because everything seems dry around the radiator area to me.

Strangely today, I drove to a golf club with my friend, and upon leaving, the car would not start. The dash lights and clock etc were dimming and flickering, with a turning over sound, but no start up. Just a clicking sound. It would not bump start either. Also it randomly started locking, unlocking, the horn beeping and the hazards flashing. At one point, the doors remained locked and I couldn't open them from the outside using the remote, only by the key itself.

The breakdown man came out and let the Battery charge for a few mins, jump started it, and I was off on my way. However, the steering was really stiff and kept switching from power steering to none power steering, with the brake pedals becoming really hard when pushed. The recovery man said he thinks I need a new Battery, but I am not sure whether the coolant issue is playing a part in this?

As I got closer to home, I put my full beams on and the engine cut out again, but thankfully it bump started this time. I finally got home, and the car was left in neutral whilst the engine was running, and suddenly it cut out again. I jump started it to close the windows and it is now left parked up.

For a good while whilst driving home, the traction control and vsc lights were both on on the dash, and I couldn't turn the traction control on using the button inside the vehicle.

Thoughts???????

Many Thanks,

On the electrical issues, I'd definitely get your Battery checked out.  Would explain the flashing lights, intermittent steering, etc.  Also worth checking the Battery cables and Battery clamps are sound, as well as good earthing to body.

I've had an alternator go and this caused similar electrical issues that you have had. When running you should get around 14v, try checking with a multimeter

Hi all,

Checked the voltages and it was the Battery. Replaced and fine now.

However, I have noticed that the coolant is still emptying. Unfortunately, in the passenger foot well !!!!!!

When I drive it sounds like there is a bucket of water sploshing about inside the dashboard.

Matrix gone? Hope not as Toyota have quoted me £777 including vat/parts/labour.

Thanks,

Great, glad you got the electrics sorted, not sure about the coolant issue but it does sound like the matrix to me
