Please help! Exhaust woes

Hello everyone. 

I have just bought myself a 2002 celica vvtli 190. I love it. But I have a problem. Over the last couple of weeks I noticed the exhaust seemed to get louder(sounds like it's blowing) I wasn't sure what to do so I found a garage that perform exhaust system checks and took the car in. 

The most worrying thing about this was that according to the exhaust guy who checked it out, there is nothing wrong, no holes no gaps nothing. 

He said the baffles may have gone in the back box and that a replacement would cost £400! Following up by telling me that this may not even solve the problem. Could someone please offer some advice as I am genuinely concerned that this is going to cost me a fortune. Many thanks James
